In the early morning of Saturday August 2nd the salvage team successfully lifted the first section of the TRICOLOR. The section was moved partly under water, hanging between two sheerlegs (floating cranes) over a distance of 100 meters, and placed on the seabed again. A few hours later the ‘GIANT 4’, a semi-submersible barge was positioned next to this section.
On Sunday morning the sheerlegs ‘Asian Hercules II’ and the ‘Rambiz’ will lift the entire section (weighing approximately 3000 tonnes) and position it on top of the ‘GIANT 4’.

The barge will transport the section to a specially prepared site in Zeebrugge (Belgium) where the cargo will be disposed. At that site any materials that may have a detrimental environmental impact will be removed. Eventually the cargo will be dismantled and destroyed.

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
