Today the sheerlegs (floating cranes) ‘Rambiz’ left the port of Zeebrugge for the location of the TRICOLOR. The ‘Asian Hercules II’ will leave tonight to the same destination. Both sheerlegs are being mobilised to perform the lift of the second section of the TRICOLOR.

Last night, the salvage team on site encountered some very bad weather with wind forces of 6 Beaufort. Nevertheless, the team succeeded in completing all required preparations for the second lift, which is scheduled to take place late Thursday or Friday.

In addition to the two sheerlegs, the semi-submersible barge ‘Giant 4’ will leave for the TRICOLOR location as well. On her deck, she still carries the first section, which was securely sea-fastened for the voyage. The second section of the TRICOLOR will be placed on deck next to the first on the ‘Giant 4’. Then, the barge will be towed to the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, where she will stay for the duration of the disposal and dismantling of the two sections.

The ’Asian Hercules II’ and the ’Rambiz’ will be on location tonight

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
