Last night, the salvage team was faced with unfavourable weather conditions in the English Channel. Matters hardly improved during the day, and especially for the divers, who are currently connecting lifting frames to the second section of the TRICOLOR,  and who continue to be hampered by the swell and strong currents. The weather conditions forced the salvage team to adapt their schedule and therefore the next lift is now scheduled for the upcoming weekend, weather permitting.

The ‘Giant 4’ barge, with the first section of the TRICOLOR still on her deck, is scheduled to leave the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, within the next 48 hours. Her destination will be the location of the TRICOLOR, where she will stand by to receive the second section on her deck. This section will be lifted by the floating cranes ‘Asian Hercules II’ and ‘Rambiz’, who will place the second section next to the first on top of the ‘Giant 4’.

The first section of the TRICOLOR remains on the ‘Giant 4’ due to it’s size and weight, which render it practically not feasible to be removed within a short period of time. Nevertheless, work on dismantling and disposing of the section has already begun and a large quantity of cars have been removed. Naturally, this work will be postponed until the ‘Giant 4’ returns to Zeebrugge with both sections. Upon arrival, she will stay in port for a longer period of time, enabling the demolition contractors to complete their work.

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
