Early this morning salvage crews have succeeded in lifting the second section of the TRICOLOR that weighs over 3,400 tonnes and positioned it on the semi-submersible barge ‘Giant 4’.

The floating sheerlegs ‘Rambiz’ and ‘Asian Hercules II’ lifted and positioned the section together by a so called ‘tandem lift’. Due to the size and condition of the section it requires the ‘Asian HerculesII’ to remain connected during the entire voyage to the port of Zeebrugge (Belgium). The floating sheerlegs will prevent that the damaged part of the TRICOLOR may collapse.

The convoy left the scene at 10.00 this morning (21 August). It is difficult to estimate at which speed the unusual convoy can travel but she is expected to arrive later today.

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
