Early this morning salvage crews succeeded in lifting the third section of the TRICOLOR. The lifted weight of this section (the bow of the TRICOLOR) is approximately 850 tonnes.  The section is positioned on top of the ‘SMITbarge 2’. Oil pollution vessels have removed the reported oil pollution from yesterday. Currently there is no visible oil leakage reported in the vicinity of the TRICOLOR, and the oil pollution vessels have returned to their home bases. However, the oil pollution vessel ‘Union Beaver’ remains on the TRICOLOR-site, as it has been from the start of the operation.

The bow section was lifted by the floating sheerlegs (crane) ‘Rambiz’. This section was already cut some time ago. Weather permitting, the salvage team plans to lift the fourth section during the coming weekend.  This section will be placed next to the bow section on top of the ‘SMITbarge 2’.  When both sections are positioned on top of the barge, they will be transported to the harbour of Zeebrugge (Belgium).Presently, the jack-up rigs ‘Buzzard’ and ‘Vagant’ are being repositioned in order to start the cutting of the sixth section.

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
