The salvage team delivered the fifth section of the TRICOLOR to the scrap site in Zeebrugge (Belgium) this afternoon. This section was lifted from the seabed at 3.00 this morning and positioned on top of the ‘SMITbarge 2’.

The weight of the section is 1380 tonnes. Floating cranes ‘Rambiz’ had to remain connected during the transportation of the section due to the instability of the section. At 19.55 yesterday evening, the salvage team completed the sixth cut of the TRICOLOR as well. At present, unfavourable weather conditions are reported in the English Channel with wind forces of up to eight Beaufort. This necessitated the salvage team to call back almost all vessels participating in the operation to seek shelter in the port of Zeebrugge.

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
