On Monday morning, at 08.15 a.m., the salvage team resumed work on the eighth and final cut of the TRICOLOR. Due to unfavourable weather conditions the salvage operation has been halted for more than a week.

Last week, several vessels participating in the salvage operation were called back to port. Swells up to more than five meters made the operation too dangerous to continue.
The eighth cut was halted at the moment the cutting wire was halfway through the sections eight and nine. On Sunday October 12, divers succeeded in reconnecting the wire to the jack up rigs ‘Buzzard’ and “Vagant’ and this morning cutting resumed.

In the meantime, floating cranes ‘Rambiz’ is also at the salvage site to clean up the remainders of the third, fourth and fifth sections.  As soon as the cutting operation has been completed, the ‘Rambiz’ will start lifting the remaining sections.
Presently, five out of the nine sections have been lifted and transported to Zeebrugge (Belgium).

The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
