Last night the floating sheerlegs ‘Taklift 4’ commenced with the scheduled grab lifting work on the remaining sections of the ‘Tricolor’. After days of preparations in the port of Zeebrugge the sheerlegs embarked on a new phase in the ‘Tricolor’ wreck removal operation. The vessel was cut into nine last year, and four sections remain on the seabed. These sections will now be lifted, and in addition all remaining debris will be removed from the wreck area.
After arriving on scene, ‘Taklift 4’ started positioning and anchoring manoeuvres. After finishing these manoeuvres the sheerlegs was ready to start lifting. ‘Taklift 4’ is being assisted by the salvage tug ‘Banckert’. Multipurpose vessel ‘Union Beaver’ is also standing by during the entire operation, and will take anti-pollution measures if required.
The work on the ‘Tricolor’ is expected to end in/around September 2004, depending on weather conditions.
The salvage of the TRICOLOR is being carried out by the ‘Combinatie Berging Tricolor’, a consortium consisting of: SMIT Salvage B.V., Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors N.V., URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting N.V., and Multraship Salvage B.V. The salvage contract was awarded to the consortium by Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Gard Services.
